Follow Friday (36)

Is a blog hop hosted by Parajunkee and Alison Can Read.

This is a blog hop for bloggers to get to know other bloggers, & to help some gain more of a following and support system for their blog. It looks like it should be a lot of fun. To join in, go to the host's page and follow the steps they have posted up there. =D

Some music is provided for you at the bottom. For you enjoyment. Hope you all have a wonderful day!

This week's question is...

Do you mind books with similar ideas to other books? Similar concepts, backgrounds, retellings or pulled-to-publish fanfic?

This question really makes you sit down and question yourself, "What book isn't a copy of another idea in some fashion or another?" Everything that has ever been written has been inspired by something else. Even the very first book ever written would (I assume because honestly I wasn't there or anything, lol... or was I?) have been a retelling of something else, somebody just finally got the brilliant idea to write it all down.

Allison really answered it well this week. That really as long as the story isn't a complete retelling (or total rip-off) of another idea then it really doesn't bother me to see similar ideas shared between books. As long as each book can manage to make it their own story.

But I have read some books that took it to far, and maybe only changed one or to things about another book and tried to call it their own. That's when it will frustrate me, because really if I had wanted to read that book again I would of just read it... LOL. You know what I mean?

Do you all mind if books share ideas?

Agreed. It's all a matter of how much work the author actually puts into it. :D Old follower via GFC. My FFs are at Musings on Fantasia and LKHill. Happy Friday! :D

Hopping through. Thanks for complimenting my answer! I thought it was pretty erudite too ;-)

As I said, anything can be good as long as it feel unique - whether it actually is or not.

I know what you mean! And I totally agree! I haven't read much of re-tellings of fan-fiction.Though Twilight did start my love YA so I do enjoy some of the similar concept books! :) Totally agree with you on Alison's answer, It definitely has to be complete and I love when they have a uniqueness about them! :)

I'm a new follower.
